About me

Hi, I am Burak! I am currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Johannes Felsenberg lab @FMI Basel, working on learning and memory of the amazing model organism, the fruit flies. Specifically, I am focusing on the time aspect of how memories are made and developing paradigms for studying it.

Besides my research, I love being involved in projects aimed at a better world. I volunteer at two non-profit science-related organizations:
  • TReND in Africa:  I am a teaching and organising assistant of TReND CaMinA comp neuro & ML course that will take place in Kigali, Rwanda in July, 2024. Previously, I was a TA at the same course in Ghana 2023 and also prepared material for and taught in a python course for African students in 2022.
  • Neuromatch Academy: I am part of the organization team of Neuromatch Academy courses for comp. neuro and machine learning. At NMA 2023 I was the executive chair leading the Instruction department and dealt with Teaching Assistant (TA) related issues such as TA selections, training, support before and during the course.
